BASEC Engineering was engaged by Clarence Valley Council to deliver concept design services for the remediation of a significant landslip impacting Armidale Road — a key regional transport corridor affected by severe weather and ground instability.
The project focused on identifying the root cause of slope failure, developing a practical and buildable stabilisation solution, and preparing documentation suitable to support funding approval and progression to detailed design and construction.
Our scope of services included:
End-to-end concept design management from site assessment through to remediation strategy development
Detailed site inspections, survey coordination and geotechnical assessment to determine slope failure mechanisms
Slope stability analysis and risk assessment to inform remediation options
Development of concept stabilisation methodology including earthworks, retaining solutions and drainage improvements
Surface and subsurface drainage design to reduce future groundwater and saturation risk
Preliminary pavement reinstatement strategy for the affected road corridor
Preparation of concept design drawings and technical documentation
Preliminary cost estimates to support DRFA and funding pathway requirements
Constructability review considering access constraints, traffic management and staged delivery
Risk identification and mitigation planning aligned with Council asset standards
Project outcome
The Armidale Road Slip Remediation concept design provided Council with a clear, technically sound and costed pathway to restore the affected corridor. The proposed solution addressed immediate slope instability while integrating long-term resilience measures to reduce the likelihood of recurrence. The project positioned Council to confidently progress to detailed design and secure funding for construction delivery.
